Clean lines, bold colors and sensuous curves are what you will find when you flip through LA based artist/designer Mark Wasyl's portfolio. His super sexy vector style is brought out in his gorgeous sexy pin-ups called Drop Dead Sexy. The pin-ups are infused with tons of attitude, devilish charm and the girls are inked up!

Give us an idea of how you got into art and where you feel you started to develop you style?
I've been into art and music as far back as I can remember, but during Junior High is when the inspiration to create really kicked in. Metal and punk is all I was listening to, and being bombarded by all the cool album covers, flyers and show posters had its impact on me. I developed this fascination with skulls, girls and pentagrams, so my work reflected that. My girls weren't all that hot back then, but over time they got cuter and cuter I guess. My current style is still evolving, but probably the first glimpse of it started a few years back. I've taken the subject matter that I love most and combined it with the tools I use for graphic design...the computer.

Were comic books an influence on you?
Comic book art maybe, but not so much the stories. I bought comic books like Lobo, Gen 13, and the adult comic magazine more for the art than anything else. I would at some point read the stories, but they didn't do much for me. Artists like J Scott Campbell and Simon Bisley were my favorites. Your artwork is comprised of primarily tattooed pin-up girls. Why the hot inked up women and how did it originate? I just combined a couple of things that fascinated me the most hot girls with attitude combined with kick-ass tattoo work. What a perfect combination. In addition to drawing up these hot pinups I get an extra canvas (skin) to add my trademark skulls, flames, stars and devils nymphs to.

Do you ever use models or are these simply original creations?
I've definitely used photos of models to help out with poses and ideas, and every now and then the likeness and persona of the model in the reference photo will take over. But for the most part 90% of my work is an "original creation" as you call it.

Who is the hottest inked up woman you can think of?
There are so many. Just off the top of my head: Sabina Kelley, Masuimi Max, Nikki Fiction, Anne Lindfield... Have you checked out DeviantNation.com yet? If so, what did you think of the site? Any fave girls? This is a trick question. If I answer no, then I'm fucked...so yeah, of course! I dig the DN site.... lots of hot inked girls to draw inspiration from...and my favorites have to be Angiepants, Jessie Lee and Stellar.

How much of an impact has music had on your art and what music influences your art the most?
HUGE....I grew up listening, loving and playing music. My earliest "cool" work worth mentioning were these pencil illustrations of the members of Mötley Crüe (Shout at the Devil era’) and illustrations of Iron Maiden's mascot "Eddie". Music is also what gets my subconscious working and helps set the stage for my work. Plug me into some good tunes and I'll officially be infected and ready to throw down some Drop Dead Sexy artwork.

How did you come to hook up with Sik World Clothing?
Jaysun Chall from Sik World got in touch with me December 2006 through an email I believe, and he expressed some interest in working with me to bring Art and graphics to his already successful line of clothing. I looked into what he was doing, checked out his current audience, and through a couple more conversations and "formal" meeting in my cold dungeon of an office it was on. We see eye to eye on a lot of stuff, and have a respect for each other’s opinions and ideas which makes working together easy.

Where can people pick up your shirts, prints and other artwork?
Shirts are available through Sik World (www.SikWorld.com), as well as some retail shops. Prints, stickers, art and my soon to be released Book of Drop Dead Sexy Pinups and other art related stuff can be picked up through my website www.DropDeadSexyPinups.com.

Do you do commission pieces?
Sometimes. The commission has got to be something that I think is a cool project in order for me to consider it, otherwise its almost not worth it. My favorite commissions are always based around pinups and skulls with a touch of evil. If you have something like that in mind that you need done, then hit me up!

What do you ultimately want to achieve with your art and how far did you want to take it?
I want my art to get people off the way so many artists did me...sounds dirty right....good! Yeah, music and art has given me drive, inspiration and excitement over the years...so if I my art can inspire, excite and get people off then that would be fuck'n rad. Also, making a decent living with my art wouldn't be such a bad gig either...I'd be lying if I thought otherwise.

Fleshbot: Mark Wasyl's Drop Dead Sexy Pinups

Imagine what would happen if your little sister’s Bratz dolls grew up, got themselves tattooed and/or sprouted a pair of devil horns, and started hanging out at burlesque joints and biker bars and you might get a sense of what Los Angeles artist Mark Wasyl’s Drop Dead Sexy Pinups are all about. Like those ubiquitous plastic doe-eyed hussies-in-training, Mark’s two dimensional hotties have carved out quite the media mini-empire for themselves since we first spotted his work about a year ago; aside from the samples of his work you can browse through on his website, you can also find them on t-shirts, art prints, tarot cards, PSP and mobile phone downloads, and desktop wallpapers … and if you’re as captivated by their gun-totin’ badass sexiness as we are, you’ll want to collect them all too.’
